My birds like pet grass, but $5 for 9 square inches of @#$%ing grass is absurd. I'm off the the garden store to see about buying a couple tiny pots and some seed wheat.

Update: The garden store seems to have gone out of business, and Home Despot Garden Center only carries Scott's Turf Builder, which is not what I want

If you buy standard (bird) seeds and put them in water, then they will sprout.

Does that grow greens that the birds find yummy, or does it just grow more birdseed?

My finches used to eat it like mad.

For myself, I just bought one of those wheat grass plant thingies the other day and have it sitting in my window. I'm growing it like a regular plant, and letting the birds eat it a little at a time.
